A simulation model for the age dynamics of young Abies nephrolepis (Trautv.) Maxim. and Picea ajanensis Fisher trees in dark coniferous stands is proposed. The model equations describe the tree height growth and appearance, and the elongation and inclination angle change of the branches. The model adequately describes the asymmetrical development of tree crowns and can be used to model the stand dynamics. © 2006, Taylor & Francis Group, LLC.
