In order to estimate the relationship between biomass and drift of benthic invertebrates (Gammarus lacustris Sars., larvae of mayflies and chironomids), the specific drift rate and the ratio of drift rate to their biomass has been used. The negative correlation between the specific drift rate and the biomass density has been obtained. It indicates that competition between hydrobionts for space and food is not important for the drift. It has been suggested that the decrease in the specific rate of amphipods and the increase in their biomass in bottom sediments are associated with the patterns of feeding and sexual behavior of crustaceans, and the larvae of insects undergo a similar decrease in their specific rate due to the formation of aggregative behavior in them for the mass emergence of imagoes.
