Origin of Far Eastern Oak Forest

The history of more than a half-century discussion about the origin of oak forest is considered. The author characterizes main concepts, analyses arguments supporting dif­ferent concepts; describes refugia of nemoral flora in the north of oak range: communi­ties dominated by Mongolian oak. The existence of specific phytocenotically active core of the oak flora which would prove broader (than modern) distribution of original oak forest in REE is discussed.
