Conditions of the growth of wild ginseng (Panax ginseng C.A. Mey.) in the Ussuriyskiy Ararat mountain range forests

Year: 2004, Issue: L, Pages: 134 - 147

Given paper discusses the question on the growth conditions for wild ginseng, which is spread on the area of the Ussuriyskiy Ararat mountain range. According to the Biodiversity Conservation Strategy for the Sikhote-Alin, it is planned to create a national park in the surveyed region with the purpose of artificial reproduction (regenerating) of ginseng. The analysis of 300 detailed geobotanical samples, 20 of which were taken on the places where the ginseng is present, has showed that the mount slopes of west and south-west expositions with 300 - 600 m of height, where the cedar-broadleaf and the broadleaf-cedar forests dominate, are the most preferable sites for the ginseng. From 13 forest types, designated to the middle-mountain zone, the ginseng was reported only in the phytocenosis belonging to two types of forests; they are: I. Broadleaf-cedar with lime, lianas - shrubs, sedge - chlorantum (Tilieto amurensae — Querceto -Pinetum lianoso — fruticoso — caricoso - chlorantosum) and 2. Oak — cedar - magnolia-vine - hazel with herb — little-sedge (Querceto — Pinetum schisandroso — coryloso - mixtoherboso — nanocaricosum).
