Year: 2001, Issue: XLVIII, Pages: 85 - 124

The genus Viola L. is represented in the flora of the Russian Far East (RFE) by 51 spp. In this paper the annotated list of species, new taxa including, together with distribution, ecological preference and the chromosome numbers (for 31 spp. - obtained on the local material), is compiled, new chromosome counts are given. In the species of Viola of RFE 2n=12, 18, 20, 24, 40, 48, 64, 72 and 96 have been revealed, the most common are species with 2n=24 and 2n=20. There are two basic chromosome numbers - x=5 and 6 within this genus in RFE. Most of the species (63%) in RFE have been originated from the East Asian center of speciation. The basic chromosome number x=6 is considered to be primitive (ancestral) for the genus Viola in RFE.
